Note: Saturday daytime dances have been cancelled. The Saturday evening dance will be held as scheduled.

Class Notes

Level 1 is aimed at advanced beginning/intermediate players, who have a good grasp of basic skills, are able to tune their instruments, keep time, play principal chords and scales and play a few tunes with confidence.

Level 2 is aimed at intermediate/advanced players, who are comfortable with their instruments and able to play in tune, on the beat and with a group; it will focus on style, ornamentation and arrangements. Students are welcome to audit classes beyond their skill level and record material for future study and personal use.

Fiddle: Beginning fiddle will work on repertoire, style and making the tunes flow, developing ear training and learning techniques useful at your next jam session. Advanced fiddle will explore how to approach tunes that are technically and mentally challenging and will look at tunes that leave the first position, crooked tunes, counterintuitive melodies, unusual bowing patterns, and other things that challenge us musically.

Banjo classes will work on clawhammer technique, Guitar will work on dance accompaniment, primarily in DADGAD tuning.

Repertoire and Band Classes introduce tunes and work on ensemble skills. Saturday classes work towards the evening dance band experience.

Dance classes are open to both new and experienced participants.
