The Classes
- Appalachian Fiddle and Hammered Dulcimer with Ken Kolodner and Christie Burns (Adv.Beg-Int. level)
This interactive class for both fiddle and dulcimer works on building confidence, hones basic playing skills, back up techniques and jam survival using pieces from a lively American repertoire. Class will divide time between instrument technique and group playing opportunities. - Intermediate Hammered Dulcimer with Nick Blanton
This class will work on grounds and graces to ornament and accompany a repertoire of mostly early and renaissance music. Recorders, whistles, lutes and percussion welcome! - Advanced Hammered Dulcimer with Karen Ashbrook
This class will work on arranging, syncopations, chord accompaniment and harmony substitutions with a few choice gems from Karen's extensive Celtic and continental repertoire. Ability to read music recommended. - Music of Mexico with Dulcemelos Alejandra Barrientos (salterio, a plucked hammered dulcimer) and Héctor Larrios (piano, accordion)
A repertoire class for all instruments including Mexican folk pieces, European baroque music, salon and chamber music from the 18th century and more. Dulcimer students will learn plucking techniques adaptable to their instruments. - Euro Band with Paul Oorts (all instruments ) (Int.-Adv.) Saturday Only
Open to ALL instruments, this class is designed for musicians who want to develop their skills in ensemble playing, especially for dancing. The class will spend about half the time working on building repertoire and the other half working on ensemble skills.
Students in intermediate and advanced classes should have a familiarity with their instruments and be able to learn tunes either from sheet music or by ear.
