About Upper Potomac Music Weekends
Located in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia, the weekend programs of Upper Potomac Music Weekends give students an opportunity to share tunes and techniques, and to learn from some of the finest teachers available in a variety of traditions on many instruments.
Each program offers a slightly different flavor or theme to appeal to a wide range of students.
Our programs for the 2009-2010
season are:
Cape Breton Fiddle Fest -
October 16-18, 2009
The latest version of our Celtic Weekend, the Cape Breton Fiddle Fest will include a variety of classes for fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, mandolin, mixed instruments, dance and more; with concert, jams, student-led mini classes, and a ceilidh dance.
Piper's Weekend -
January 8-10, 2010
The Pipers Weekend offers 2-hour long classes at a variety of levels and the opportunity for private tutorials for enrolled students in Scottish small pipes, border pipes, Northumbrian small pipes, flute/whistle, fiddle and hammered dulcimer and repertoire for mixed-instruments. A Friday night roundrobin session, Saturday concert, late night jams and student-led mini-classes round out the offerings.
Fiddle Retreat -
January 29-31, 2010
The Fiddle Retreat features classes on a variety of topics for fiddle, banjo and mixed instruments lasting 2 hours in the morning and afternoon. Class listings will appear in late summer. The weekend includes a Friday night showcase concert, a Saturday night contra dance with a teacher-led open band, jam sessions, student led mini-classes and more.
Spring Music Weekend -
March 19-21, 2010
The Spring Music Weekend combines full-weekend (Friday morning- Sunday noon) as well as one day classes for hammered dulcimer (all levels offered, rental instruments available), fiddle, mixedinstrument repertoire, step dance and more with a French Canadian theme this season to celebrate our special guests from Canada!
